PAUL PACEY FINE ART PHOTO - THE STORY
One could easily argue that signing a contract on short notice with no planning, no financing, no art, no artists, no branding, no preparation, or no clue of any kind is a pretty crazy thing to do - and they'd be absolutely right! But then again, how many of the greatest joys in life come from the things we don't see coming?
So while I wasn't exactly looking for an art gallery when I found one, when I saw the place, and the potential it represents, I was reminded of some words once spoken by someone much wiser than I - "At the end of the ride when we're looking back trying to make sense of it all, the greatest regrets in life tend not to come from the things we've done, but from the things we never even tried."
So with that precisely in mind, when opportunity came knocking, I said....
August 27, 2016. Judgement Day. With 114 days under my belt, and nothing but hope left to my name, the day had come.
In a combined show of creative spirit, 13 photographers as diverse as the backgrounds from which they came, gathered together to inaugurate not only the gallery, but also Prague's first Fine Art Nude Photography Challenge - a collective exhibition designed to push the creative limits of it's esteemed participants in a unique competition while bringing the Prague photo community together.
With a huge sigh of relief, the show successfully opened to a packed house and unanimous accolades from photographers and guests alike. It was official. The bar had been set, and Paul Pacey Fine Art Photo was finally on the map.
Whether you're looking for a one-stop-shop for your next show, or a blank canvas upon which to reveal something new, you're in the right place. Keep reading to know more about what the gallery can do for you.
Exhibition Production - Take it from someone who understands - Art is a hard sell. Most of us who create from the heart, don't do so for financial gain since there is often very little. But luckily, sometimes a little goes a long way. So even if you're on a tight budget, I can print, frame, promote and exhibit your solo or group show in-house, saving you both time and money. How much time and money? More than you think. Drop me a line to find out.
Gallery rental - Don't need printing or framing services and just want a unique place to host your show? Or maybe you're an event planner looking for a unique, artsy, space in the historic center to create a memorable occasion? Either way, whether it's for a public show, or private party, you'll be hard pressed to find a more interesting and intimate space than right here. Adaptable, and available for both short and long term rentals.
Design, Catering, Entertainment - If Exhibition Production is meat and potatoes, Design, Catering, and Entertainment are the bells and whistles. Depending on how deep your pockets go, and far you want to go to woo your guests, I can also provide a pool of professional contacts, each who shine in their own field: Musicians, DJs, Performers, Sommeliers, Hostesses, and Graphic Designers that suit all budgets are all at your finger tips, and all available to make sure your night shines too.
In most ways, my personal Mission hasn't changed in some 19 years: to make the things I do for love, and the things I do for gain, one in the same. The gallery's Mission is no different. Except that instead of seeking out only my own happiness, I also seek it out for those who share the same dream.
Self-exploration, inspiration, expression, community, sustenance. Without a place to grow, these things are far too often sacrificed to the life that gets in the way. But not here. Not if I have my way.
Here, they are celebrated, and nurtured. Emerging artists and established, in a space that places relationships above profit, and community above competition. Will it survive? Ha! Luckily I'm not a betting man. And I won't go down without a fight.
Fast forward three months, a successful Kickstarter campaign, and more sweat, sandpaper, and second guessing than I care to admit, and what was once a defunct massage parlor was now a 280 m2 labor of love (read prime gallery space, lounge, wet plate photo studio and 2 guest rooms) in the heart of Prague's historic center just steps below Prague Castle.

I realize that whatever happens, or doesn't happen, with the gallery moving forward remains at least partially out of my hands. I have planted the seeds with hard work and best intentions, watered them with love, and provided the light of good faith. Like everything else in my life, I have controlled with care what I can, but recognize that it's destiny is ultimately a collaboration with something beyond just me.
Some call it luck, others, a leap of faith. Me? I call it art.
